In Ascona, a romantic stroll, a family excursion- or a training route all mean one thing: the Giro del Golf with its excellent Restaurant Buca19. This attractive route, roughly 2.5 km (1.5miles) long, follows the perimeter of the splendid parkland that overlooks Lake Maggiore. It takes you to the Lido area and past the Yacht Club (which will turn 65 in 2019), and follows the shore of the lake all the way to the Porto Patriziale. The Vela Bianca Restaurant is a must for fine food especially fresh fish.
The well-signposted path then heads inland, until it reaches Via Muraccio. Here you turn left and, around 200 metres further on, left again onto Via Patrizia, before heading back to the Lido, where in the summer you can recover with a quick dip in the water, or in the evening enjoy a drink in one of the bars that make up Ascona’s nightlife. The circular route can be followed in either direction, starting from wherever is easiest to get to. Not only can you admire the sublime lake landscape, the blue of the water contrasting with the green slopes that lead down to it, you can also immerse yourself in vegetation that includes wonderful ex- amples of mature trees. The iridescent colours of the species dotted around the 18-hole course offer different sensations in every season.
In addition to the enchanting places it takes in, the route is also great for fitness devotees. It forms part of the first Sopraceneri path, created by CardioWalkTicino to encourage people to exercise more. In Ascona, a 5 km (3.1 mile) route takes you to the banks of the Maggia river, and can be enjoyed by following the signposts or downloading the dedicated app.
