Carl Weidemeyer 1882-1976

02 March - 12 May 2019

To mark 100 years since the birth of Bauhaus, the Museo Castello San Materno is dedicating an exhibition to one of its key figures, the German architect Carl Weidemeyer, who left the town of Ascona the Teatro San Materno, the sole remaining Bauhaustheatre in Switzerland to the town of Ascona. Since 1995, the Municipality of Ascona has held a large collection of documents and creations by the artist from Bremen, and this exhibition aims to showcase his work in the fields of painting, drawing and architecture. Combining naturalism and abstraction, Weidemeyer embodied the modernist and innovative spirit of the era during the complex shift from the nineteenth to the twentieth century.
